Naples to Amalfi Coast
Naples Airport also known as Capodichino Airport, is located just 7 km from the centre of Naples, so it’s a good idea to book an airport transfer in advance to get you to your booked accommodation in the city comfortably and easily.
Naples is one of the most enchanting Italian cities with a rich historical past and a cultural life that makes it truly special. The Centro Storico is the historic centre of the city, where visitors will find a wide range of attractions. With a population of one million, Naples is the third largest city in Italy after Rome and Milan and the largest in southern Italy. One of Europe’s largest historic city centres, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995.
One of the symbols of Naples, and perhaps its most famous, is Castel Nuovo, built by Charles of Anjou in the 13th century, Castel dell’Ovo is the oldest fortress in the city, with bastions dating from different historical periods. The ecclesiastical complex of Santa Chiara, which includes a basilica, a monastery, crypts and an archaeological museum, is one of the city’s most famous tourist attractions.
Thanks to its location, it is a great starting point for exploring many beautiful sites: Pompeii, Vesuvius, the islands of Capri and Ischia, or the Amalfi Coast. The history and life of the city is very much linked to the sea, being one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean, from here you can reach the islands of the Gulf of Naples, such as Ischia and Capri.
The Amalfi Coast (Italian: Costiera Amalfitana) is a stretch of coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Gulf of Salerno in southern Italy. Like the rest of the region, the Amalfi Coast enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The Sorrento peninsula is located on a relatively steep southern coast, leaving little space for rural and agricultural areas. The only mainland road to the Amalfi Coast is the 40-kilometre-long Strada Statale, which runs along the coast from the town of Vietri sul Mare in the east to Positano in the west. There are thirteen municipalities on the Amalfi Coast, many of them focused on tourism.
The Amalfi Coast is known for the production of limoncello liqueur, as the area is known for its lemon cultivation, known in Italian as sfusato amalfitano, which is grown in terraced gardens along the entire coast between February and October.
